All field assessments for Qingdao's Green Grain Yield Enhancement Competition concluded on the afternoon of June 23, with the final on-site yield measurement completed in Jiangshan Town at Laixi City, marking the successful close of this year's summer harvest. According to the Qingdao Municipal Bureau of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, among 224 participating grain producers, seven plots exceeded 800 kilograms per mu; notably, a demonstration field managed by large-scale grower Liu Junxu in Lancun Subdistrict of Jimo District to test a five-grain integration recorded an on-site yield of 886.9 kg per mu, the highest ever achieved for a demonstration field in the city.
A Municipal Bureau of Agriculture and Rural Affairs official said Qingdao has proactively taken measures to align this year's harvest with the national launch of the new 100 Billion Jin Grain Production Capacity Enhancement Action (2024–2030) to implemente large-scale yield-improvement measures. Building on the establishment of ten 10,000-mu green grain pilot zones, the city plans over 100 demonstration areas of 1,000 mu and more than 1,000 demonstration sites of 100 mu, with a three-tier linkage service mechanism across city, district, and town levels to form a new engine for green grain increase. Integrated innovative technologies achieving on-site yields above 800 kg per mu can be further refined and replicated at scale.
"The exceptional yield was driven not only by the choice of high-yield, high-quality wheat varieties but also by high-standard farmland construction, careful guidance from agronomists and the integration of supporting technologies—namely a 'two selections and four adaptations' water–fertilizer integration plus other approaches like the 'one spray, three protections' methodology," according to Liu Junxu who set the record. He noted that crop vigor was markedly better than last year, delivering approximately 20 percent higher yields per mu.
Summer sowing across the city is proceeding in an orderly manner. Agricultural monitoring shows an intended sowing area of over 3.8 million mu, with 3.659 million mu already planted; summer sowing is expected to conclude by June 25. The Bureau of Agriculture and Rural Affairs is focused on the remaining sowing and field-management tasks, dispatching technical teams to the front lines to provide guidance and support, ensuring sufficient and high-quality seeding for autumn crops and orderly summer field management. Efforts are underway to implement the "10-100-1000" green grain increase service program, with all-out work being vigorously carried out to win the Three Summers production campaign—covering summer harvest, sowing and management—to lay a solid foundation for a bumper autumn harvest.
